Casey Davis, Riverkeeper
Casey Davis was hired as the White Oak-New Riverkeeper in January 2012. She grew up in Jacksonville, NC before leaving to pursue a degree in Environmental Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There, she grew fascinated with the relationship between public health and the environment, deciding to focus on water quality issues. In the fall of 2009, Casey attended UNC’s Institute of Marine Sciences at Morehead City and gained hands-on experience, researching aquatic habitats and algal blooms. Her passion to make a difference led her to the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. As the Outreach Instructor, she developed new educational programs and traveled throughout the state teaching to hundreds of students, teachers, and families about NC’s aquatic environments and coastal issues. With her experience in reaching out to the community in combination with her passion for water quality, Casey is now happy to serve as the “watchdog” of the White Oak and New rivers and even happier to be back to the place she calls home.
